MAGPIE/ Prompt #30

                                                         photo/willow/ magpie tales

A VERY IMPORTANT APPLE

You mean that by my taking a bite,
there's no turning back,
I've shaped the sin of the world?

Who would have thought
this succulent fruit,
whose sap has trickled down my chin,
a syrupy residue laced
with purity, and oozing
towards my bosom,

would mark me
as the first offender?

Can it be, Mr.S,
the bite you enticed me to nibble,
plunged creation into vanity,

where all's over at the start,
all's conceit, and
I'm doomed
to a life of repentance?

A simple desire for a treat
did all that, you say?

Not fair, not fair!
I didn't know you'd change an apple
into a metaphor.

The BEST!

fabulous magging.

A clever, witty and strikingly profound magpie, Lyn. Of course, there is often a cross-over between symbolism and literalism, a nuance too many refuse to acknowledge.

Lyn said...

Hi Helen-
So glad you liked it..thank you!!

I so like your writing...wonderful play of thoughts and deeds such as a simple bite of apple! Apples dipped in honey this week has for me, the definition of "A sweet New Year" more than a juicy snack...love the metaphors.

Lyn said...

Hi Mary Ann-
I'm so grateful for your lovely thoughts..Apple and honey, suddenly have a real craving!!A Sweet New Year to you!!

Lyn said...

Hi Brian-
Sooo..appease and leave..and we have to sort it out, for sure..
life on earth, huh? But our lesson, perhaps...laugh and detach!!
Thanks..

I may have eaten the apple, but you planted the seed, that grew into the tree, which bore this wonderful fruit...

Lyn said...

Hi Jen-
Very interesting comment..thank you!

spacedlaw said...

It was all the apple's fault anyway.

Lyn said...

Hi spacedlaw-
Sweetness and beauty, hmm..that is enticing!!

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with a little vanity. It's the *tricking* part that I'm not happy with. Brilliant magpie, Lyn.

Sometimes a train is a train, a tunnel a tunnel, a cigar a cigar. And I will go down fighting the idea that a biblical bite from an apple or apricot is what brought mankind down the proverbial greased slide to sin.

I truly enjoyed the fact that I read something altogether different into your writing, again proving that what the story portends is more the concept of the reader than the writer!

BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN AND EXECUTED!

Hi Dana-
Very interesting comment..theological texts have been an inspiration from the beginning..satire,inquisitions.. hardly a day goes by that I don't exclaim..Oh, God!! Waiting, waiting....
