MAGPIE/ Prompt #31

                                      photo/willow/magpie tales

FROM MY WINDOW

Easy to kill, easy to die,
not just on September 11th.

Drift back through time,

heads atop posts,
heads in baskets,
even kings and queens
danced in their own blood.

Time shields the eyes
from all that crimson,
seducing us to forget our misdeeds.
All war proves to be
an afterbirth of a stillborn,
with nothing forthcoming.

The Towers roar,
we all descend together.

Paper falls slowly,
carrying a message:
Doomsday,
while the nation plummets
into grief.

Lyn this is such a moving poem. I think we all were in grief from our own windows to the world...seeing all the loss of life. Such a tragedy for everyone.
Thank you for sharing this poem with us. :-)

Wonderfully powerful, Lyn. Throughout history people have been committing the same mistake and it doesn't stop.

What a thought provoking poem Lyn... "All war proves to be
an afterbirth of a stillborn,
with nothing forthcoming". Beautifully you captured the futility of the wars which continue nonetheless... Amazing .. Hope some war-makers find their way here and have a change of mind..

Lyn said...

Hi Carrie-

This is a fantastic piece, Lyn. It reached in, grabbed my heart and gave it a squeeze. You're so right, like the towers, we all descended.

Lyn said...

Hi Abhalisha-
How thoughtful of you..yes, as you can see, your comment was saved..so thanks again!

Lyn said...

Hi Willow-
This was pure synchronicity..had just written the poem..then saw the prompt..to me it was the Towers, melting..Magic!! Also gave me the title for the poem..imagine!

Lynn, your Magpie is a deep, profound reminder of what happened to us not that long ago .... beautifully written!

Two Ghosts which never died, and never will. Thank you for the tribute. Also for:

"even kings and queens
danced in their own blood."

Once in early dawn hour I saw a man dancing in his own blood, which was everywhere. He had been beheaded.

Your poem stands without the prompt! Well done.

Lyn said...

Hi Doctor FTSE-
Thank you..I started to write this before the prompt and then it just sort of fit!

Tragic, Lyn, and infinitely powerful. And so true. History is full of murder and blood, of wars and conflict...though often, we choose to forget this. And even today, it is still happening, the slaughter of innocents.

Lyn said...

Hi Sam-
As you say, even now..in our nature..forever? Thank God for all the good!

very touching poem.

Words A Day said...

That image of war as afterbirth of a still born is so strong, shocking almost...it transmitts so much - it feels like the core of your poem. And this was a take on the image that held genuine surprize for me.. i can see now how the towers could be evoked by the image visually...and as a religous statue too - that too has been a kernal of so much bloodshed.
very powerful work.

Lyn said...

Hi Words a Day-
You're right..war is shocking..When I saw the photo I felt it completed the poem..funny how things stack up..
Thanks so much for your words...

Lyn said...

Hi Gabriela-
Thanks for your kind words...

Rinkly Rimes said...

A very apt poem particularly as I see you're from New York.

Lyn said...

Hi Tumblewords-
Very well said..it does go on, doesn't it? Thank you!

Lyn said...

Hi Rinkly Rimes-
It's possible that being here in NY does intensify our memory..I can only recall the dust that kept settling on us for at least a month..will never forget...

Unknown said...

Not living in NYC, I can only imagine what everyone went thru on a daily basis, which you've caught beautifully in your poem. We should never forget.

Lyn said...

Hi Jane-
It was the bluest sky, the blackest cloud, and everyone out on the street, walking away like the village of the damened..never forget..
Thanks..

Lyn, this made me stop to think. You've given us more to reflect on than just the image in the photo. Wonderful and thoughtful piece.

Hi Sender-
Thanks for your kind words..Funny how things come to us! Lucky to have a place to put our words!

Stafford Ray said...

Lyn, that is such a good poem!
You have widened the view to put 9/11 into perspective and yes, it does bring us down (descending) but the wisdom that guided your hand to write, also reminds us there is a bigger picture of which the twin towers were only one part.

Lyn said...

Hi Stafford-
I so appreciate what you've said and definitely recognize the energy at the center of it all...thank you..

Brian Miller said...

oh man this is an emotional piece for me...i was in the air that day as it was happening...emergency put down in ATL...and caught just a glimpse before they cut the power to the tvs...nice mag

Lyn said...

Hi Brian-
Yes, what a day..my brother's plane had to land in New Orleans, stranded there(not bad) for 2 days..
I was walking into crowds of people, mesmerized by the smoke..
9 years..where did that go?
Bless us...

I felt a chill up my spine after the last two lines. It's such a sensitive subject, especially for you, dear new Yorkers, who had to go through it. I salute, dear sister blogger, I salute you from the bottom of my heart for crafting up such a moving and beautiful piece.

Greetings from London.

Greetings to a Cuban-
I am touched by your response..It's odd, but watching the reading of the names on 9/11, was just as difficult this time as every other time..it doesn't get better...
