Winter Wonderland...

New York/ Central Park
x
x
JUST LOOKED UP AT MY TV SCREEN, and noticed a message trailing by...that Mayor Bloomberg would interrupt any program to bring us the latest news about the blizzard that hit New York City.
x
I can do that right now, bring you the latest. In fact I'd be glad to take the job of Accurate Weather Reporter, selfishly supplanting the frenzied "Weatherpersons", finally given their moment in the Sun/ Storm. And I can do it without leaving home. Because, as I stated on a much earlier post, all I have to do is switch my TV to Channel 999, and I instantly can snoop within the confines of my lobby, and the big glass door leading to the street. So here I go..are you with me?
x
Colorful. Indoor plants looking very lush, very tropical. Sidewalk outside thoroughly shoveled. Passerby leading small dog..nice doggy coat, red, I think. Doorman inside, leaning against desk in entryway. Think it's Luis, can't tell, hat pulled low. I'll check when I go out later. Oh yes, I will go out. I intend to walk to Central Park, because I know that for the next 24 hours it will look like the perfect White Christmas. Then the reality bubble will burst and grime will take over, making the city into a very grey, mushy porridge.
x
The front door seems to be sparkling, somehow flashing light. Aha, that's the reflection of the large Christmas tree, standing opulently in the lobby itself. Every year, just about the same time as the Macy's Parade, our tree is taken out of some secret storage, and placed front and center. Tenants can stop by to help decorate. Seeing the process become "our" tree, is the official beginning of the Holiday season. That and the Hanukkah lights alongside do it for me.
x
Switching channels now..getting ready to check out in person, the reality of the lobby, and the Winter Wonderland outside!

Hi Lyn,

I hope you found the reality to be not quite so blizzardous as your photo!

I well remember spending the entire day in Bloomingdale's store to avoid the snow in 1982! We had lunch in the Blue Train restaurant, sat for ages, had a quick shop and then went back for afternoon tea. Then they closed the store early for staff to get home!

Hi Derrick-
I didn't stay out as long as the kids and their sleds.
Now, Derrick, this has got to be true...I worked In Bloomies in
1982, in the cosmetic and fragrance dept. I'm absolutely sure we bumped into each other. I was the ditzy redhead, trying to spritz you with "the newest" cologne! Remember???

Hi Willow-
Thank you! But the wonderland is already changing..too much ice and slush, causing me to walk like a zombie!!
Happy snow days...

so glad the snow is in your backyard and not mine - love to admire it from afar - hope you were able to enjoy the newness of it before it becomes the other xxo

Hi Jeane-
I sort of agree with you..in the city, after the first ooh, ahh, it's a bother! But love it in the mountains..

Hi again, Lyn.

So that was you?! I do recall buying some "pamplemousse' cologne which I want to say was by Abercrombie and Fitch but can't be sure now. Have you ever wanted to smell like a grapefruit? It was very realistic!

Hi again, Derrick..
It all could have happened!! I did work as a rep for Guerlain (oldest fragrance Co. in the world) and they had a men's fragrance(citris)that Napoleon was supposed to have worn. Maybe that's when we met!!!

That's very funny, Lyn. My mom has that feature as well. You can sit for hours and just watch people from the comfort of your easy chair. Great for introverts.

My best wishes to you and your family for a very Merry and Blessed Christmas!

Funny how something so beautiful can pose such inconvenience for people. The blizzard has turned your side of the world into a very picturesque winter wonderland, but the downside to it is the reality of being snowed under and the effects this would have on typical city life on the whole.

Hi whitewitch-
Guess that's just the yin and yang of things! It all balances out...

Hi Lyn, thanks for visiting. While you have the snow, Melbourne had 38 degrees Celsius yesterday - blistering, and in the West it was hotter! Season's Greetings.

Hi Lyn,

Gorgeous photo. I love that you can sit and watch the lobby from your room. It sounds like a great premise for a mystery.

Hi Sylvia-
Hard to imagine a heat wave now! The snow has melted off the sidewalks, still piled up around the curbs though.
Best wishes for the Holidays!

Hi Elise-

Hi Butternut-
I did a post during the summer with this setting, I sort of spied on a few neighbors! Definitely like your idea for a mystery!!
