A TREAT....

WHERE DID THE WEEK GO?  I meant to post this much sooner, but time will not diminish the impact of the events!

If you have been in touch with the excellent blog of ARTIT , you probably are familiar with her exceptional art work, and read about Jeane's visit to New York.  I had the great good fortune to have met her last year, and it was a natural for us to catch up this year.  So last Wednesday we met at the Met!  An easy choice for me, having played in the nooks and crannies of the Egyptian hall since I was about 10 years old.  So off we went, through many dynasties, and the great installation of the Temple Of Dendur.

Then a very long pause for lunch and more talk than one would think possible.  What a companion.  Please invite Jeane to accompany you anywhere.  You won't regret it.  And when in NY, bear in mind that I can point out the zillion dollar acquisitions that hang at the Met.  Rembrandts Galore!

A walk in Central Park on this sunny, stellar day, allowed me to point out the site of a notorious murder.  (Sorry, I do that sort of thing).  You don't get this info from the Park Rangers.  We had to sit down on a bench, one I intended to claim on NYMarathon day, far removed, to regain our composure.  Yes, I'm a barrel of laughs and arcane information.  Been here too long.  But I can do the A List tour.

And so the moment of air-kissing arrived, and Jeane took her leave to pursue other encounters.  We all are working on getting her to come back soon.  Very soon.

Ciao, Jeane!!

Winter Wonderland...

New York/ Central Park
x
x
JUST LOOKED UP AT MY TV SCREEN, and noticed a message trailing by...that Mayor Bloomberg would interrupt any program to bring us the latest news about the blizzard that hit New York City.
x
I can do that right now, bring you the latest. In fact I'd be glad to take the job of Accurate Weather Reporter, selfishly supplanting the frenzied "Weatherpersons", finally given their moment in the Sun/ Storm. And I can do it without leaving home. Because, as I stated on a much earlier post, all I have to do is switch my TV to Channel 999, and I instantly can snoop within the confines of my lobby, and the big glass door leading to the street. So here I go..are you with me?
x
Colorful. Indoor plants looking very lush, very tropical. Sidewalk outside thoroughly shoveled. Passerby leading small dog..nice doggy coat, red, I think. Doorman inside, leaning against desk in entryway. Think it's Luis, can't tell, hat pulled low. I'll check when I go out later. Oh yes, I will go out. I intend to walk to Central Park, because I know that for the next 24 hours it will look like the perfect White Christmas. Then the reality bubble will burst and grime will take over, making the city into a very grey, mushy porridge.
x
The front door seems to be sparkling, somehow flashing light. Aha, that's the reflection of the large Christmas tree, standing opulently in the lobby itself. Every year, just about the same time as the Macy's Parade, our tree is taken out of some secret storage, and placed front and center. Tenants can stop by to help decorate. Seeing the process become "our" tree, is the official beginning of the Holiday season. That and the Hanukkah lights alongside do it for me.
x
Switching channels now..getting ready to check out in person, the reality of the lobby, and the Winter Wonderland outside!

Autumn...

THIS MORNING THE LEAVES IN CENTRAL PARK DECIDED TO LET LOOSE. THE GLUE THAT HOLDS THEM TO SUMMERTIME has finally dissolved. A signal, shouted by a barely visible wood nymph, rang through the park. Let 'er rip!! And before my eyes, trees gave up the ghost, boughs began to shake. A tremble gained in power, as colorful leaves took part in an airlift, refusing to hit the ground. Further down the path that stretched before me, a bushel of leaves finally landed, not content to just rest in peace. A whirlwind swept through them. Dust devils swirled in a manic dance. And before my eyes, every trace of green was swept away, to live in dreams of tomorrow.
