FREAK/ Poetry Potluck #24

 The Goddess Nukua

Right up my alley: A choice of Cartoons, Sci-Fi, or Super Powers!   All for this week's Poetry Potluck #24I think my choice sort of overlapped..more fun..and I decided to do a Pantoum.  It just seems to offer that spaced-out quality that I was looking for..so enjoy and please visit all the other contributors for a treat.

FREAK

On a night of lengthy shadows
I slipped away to Earth.
Now my heart has a dream of longing
on the rouged steppes of Mars.

I slipped away to Earth.
I look like any other flying maiden
on the rouged steppes of Mars.
No doubt on Earth I'm just a freak.

I look like any other flying maiden
who sheds her snakey skin.
No doubt on Earth I'm just a freak,
hiding wings you'll never get to see.

Who sheds her snakey skin,
waiting for the light that says return,
hiding wings you'll never get to see.
You're missing the chance to know me.

Waiting for the light that says return.
Now my heart has a dream of longing.
You're missing the chance to know me,
on a night of lengthy shadows.

Haiti...

HAITI/ QUAKE/ 2010
X
Pulled down to earth, beneath the ground
smashed to gravel,
are you walking, are you sinking?
x
Does your body draw away
from your dusty breath
to split this minute from forever?
x
Yet your skin is flowing red,
you see your life walk the edge,
as a villain seems to press
his hand against your mouth.
x
Try going back to live your hope,
calling out,
will I be alive?
Still the crimson flows.
x
You are grey without your soul.
Have you faith that you exist
when it seems as if you don't?
x
You learn quickly in this place
where a quake has pushed you down
to inhabit an abyss.
x
You've little time to decide
if you're dead or yet alive.
And now you'll try
to take a walk
through shattered stone.

Rushing...

I KNOW
X
Now I know what dying is like.
A stream of air caressed my lips
rushing towards eternity.
x
Fingers stretched out
as white as tile
to balance
as I float an inch above the rest
and turn to ask,
where am I going?
x
Am I still here?
I drop back down to earth,
my knees most prayerful
before I stretch out to rest.
I look in the mirror. Still standing.
Undone, done. So ends the world.
x
And hit...return.

Encounter

WORTHY
X
Don't cling to me
as you take me from the earth,
flattering me about my rosy tint,
x
inhaling my heart
then flinging me into your winter garden,
to read my petals on a wistful day.
x
Don't wrench away a coy bud
I've hidden
beneath a well placed thorn,
x
to give me up,
as if I were a beast impounded
and not a rose.
x
I'll start again
as dreams come into flower,
x
and let the earth embrace
what it comes upon
in me.

A Question.

x WHAT SAVES YOU? I found this question
floating above me this morning. I paused,
and asked a cliche', "are you talking to me"?
x
When I've fallen down the well, and no one
heeds my call, what saves me, rewards me,
is nature itself. I remind myself that I'm
allowed to be here on earth. I start climbing,
and wrap myself in fanciful notions. I let
myself be kissed by the Sun and the Moon.
I become softer, an accessible soul.
x
So what if it's my imagination, I thank whatever
placed this fantasy of life within my heart. I seek
and want to receive great beauty. It's always
there : Hello, Monet, hello, Manet, hello Mozart.
Ah, the three "M's". I know that Cezanne's the
father of them all. Greetings to him, how lucky
can I be? Please save me, Vermeer, and Rembrandt
too. A shelf of books are tumbling down..at my
feet, Hardy, Eco, Zola...Billy Collins, yes.
x
And unreeling, films, if remade, would star little me.
x
I used to move very aggressively within my tender
feelings. Now I move more slowly, like a fish
swimming backwards. That saves me, but
mostly lets me have mercy for others placed on
my path.
x
I seek further studies. I look for what points me
to an entry to heaven. I like to think that if I
bless someone, they receive it, and return it.
x
What saves you? I'd love to know. It could be
something as simple as strawberries. Why not?
