Mr. Duality...

MR. DUALITY

Every cat is a doppelganger.
The one he is on my lap,
the fierce one he dreams himself to be.

While jumping off the table
he arises from the jungle.
When landing on the floor
he's a ball of fur
waiting to be petted.

Mr. Duality slips
towards the water bowl.
He sees a gazelle sipping
at the edge of a muddy pond,
inhales the poor souls fear
beneath his grasping paw.

But the judgment in his claws
tears my indigo scarf
into wispy shreds,instead.

In his eyes
I see the twin running away.

Dreaming of a past life as a fierce predator of the jungle stalking a gazelle at the water hole. I could just imagine the scenes, well done again.

I could not help but think & smile how well suited this poem is in having a dual meaning, for it bodes well with the title of your 'blog'... in Norse mythology, a vardøger is a ghostly double ...
and in Ancient Egyptian mythology, a "ka" was a tangible "spirit double.
A common knowledge in that we know how much the Ancient Egyptian's loved their cats.

Bravo--well done...on many levels.

Oh, what a beauty of a poem! Loved the jungle bit. We forget that cats are predators. :-)

Greetings from London.

No doubt that pussy cats have that wild streak and vice versa! Pity about your scarf!

Hi to A Cuban-
I love how cats seem to live in their own stories..especially when they stare at something that isn't there...for us!! Thanks..

You've done a good job with a hard subject--defining what makes a cat tick. Think you may have nailed both the wildness that's always there, and the vulnerability. Enjoyed it.
