Frank Buckles, born in Bethany, Missouri on Feb. 1, 1901, shown here at the age of 16 in 1917, when he joined the army. x FRANK BUCKLES, AT THE AGE OF 108 years old, is the last surviving veteran of World War I.
It is a great pity that we lost our two veterans so closely together but the mantle has been passed and Frank is a worthy successor. If only we could bottle what they had/have!

Well, that is one to remember! I had an old friend, Bill, who died at 104 and he had a similar sense of humour.
