Survivor

Today is the 16th year that I've survived
the Breast Cancer Inquisition.
With gratitude, I salute us all who have
been there. We who can, keep going on.

And those who've died of Breast Cancer,
your price was too high.

Bless us all.

This is an excerpt from a poem in "Two Ghosts".
I wrote it for strength, for peace within.
For dear ones similarly afflicted.

Amazons

....as surgeons cut through sterilized skin,
where scented petals once were pressed
by men who favor beauty.
What worm burrows in the unblemished
apple? What sings
in the white bones depths?........

....See it not as mutilation when
your right breast feels the burn,
but a legendary beauty etched forever
on the sacrificial plain.......

....Daughters, line up at my side
as we pull back on the bow
to shoot an arrow to the place
where death itself is slain......

Wow! This was mind-blowing, really! I am astounded that no one has commented. I don't really know what to say, except I'm glad you're here to share your work and obvious love of things beautiful and intrinsically valuable.
