Julia !

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Julia Child
Being a fan of the great Julia Child, I was
delighted to hear that she's to be the subject of
the movie, "Julie Julia", based on Julie Powell's memoir,
"Julie and Julia : 365 Days, 524Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment."
Powell spent a year doing all 524 recipes in Child's
" Mastering The Art of French Cooking". I can't
claim the numbers, but I can claim that my DNA
is embedded in my copy. Learning knife skills did
that. Also does gravy have a DNA? Because I
dropped some Boeuf Borguignon on the book one
night. No one could tell after that I'd scraped
it together.
Meryl Streep was hired for the role of Julia in
ten seconds. She will portray the 6 foot 2, Julia,
although she herself is about 5 foot 6. But Streep
can do anything, so growing shouldn't be a
problem. The time, 1949, Paris, Le Cordon Bleu.
Joining her in the role of Julie, is Amy Adams,
who played the young nun with Streep in "Doubt".
Nuns on the run, indeed.
Can't wait to hear Streep trilling..Bon Appetite !

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Meryl Streep as Julia Child

Just noticed that this is my 100th post!
Now how did that happen? Time to get serious!!

This should be interesting. Unfortunately, Dan Ackroyd ruined any image of Julia Child in my mind with his impersonation of her on SNL. I'm sure Meryl will do her justice. Didn't everyone have her cookbook in the 70s? I know we had a set in our house (as well as "Beard on Bread").

Thanks..I trust it will be!

Yes, his impersonation was wicked! I still have the book, don't really use it anymore. But I'll keep it forever!

I had to laugh at this. Yup, you're right. She could even play the fish from the first image :-).

Greetings from London.

Hi Lyn,

Congrats on your milestone!

I've managed not to spill blood on my cook books but gravy I'll own up to!

I'm not familiar with Ms Childs or her voice, so I'll have to try and track down an old clip, if such exists!

Hi Derrick-
Thank you so much..100..phew!
Now..Julia Child is an iconic figure in cookery, here anyway. She had the greatest influence, of any chef, and was quite a character too. If you google her or go to Wikipedia, you'll get lots of info!!

Congrats on 100! and bring on the next 100.
The J&J movie sounds good and I heard the book was good too, so I may start with that first. I also heard the Julia's bio book is very interesting. I think I just found some new summer reads!

Congrats on 100!
I heard good things about the J&J book so I'll have to read it before the movie (I'm that kind of girl). I also heard the Julia's bio book is very interesting. Looks like I have two new summer reads. Thanks!
