MAGPIE...Prompt #106

                                                     Andy Warhol at the grocery....

THANKS SO MUCH TO Tess at Magpie Tales.

LIGHT BULB MOMENT

I'm still a fan and definitely the only one who can tell this story.  Andy Warhol lived in a townhouse across the street from a super market where I shopped.  I still live down the street, still shop there.

His house, the original Factory, was an amazing structure to behold, whose facade was entirely covered by creeping vines and trees that had the ability to plant their roots into the brick frontage.  It remained unsold for a very long time after he passed.  Walking by at night, I could only think of the gnarly limbs of the creepers in Snow White that Walt Disney wrapped around my imagination so many years ago.  A bit of residual fear still threatens to squeeze the life out of me as I quicken my steps walking past.  Is that a white wigged ghost lurking at the corner?

A sign in the canned soup aisle advertised, "Four cans of Campbell's Tomato Soup for thirty-five cents".   Who could resist that?  Not Andy Warhol, who allegedly had Campbell's Soup for lunch every day.  Not me, counting my pennies.  We clinked our shopping carts at the market, nodded "sorry".

We both reached for the same soup can, he pulled his hand back.  After you, he gallantly pantomimed.  I giggled, as I do in the presence of celebrity, gathered my cargo, then stalked him to the checkout.  Four cans of soup for me.  A stash of dozens easily, for Andy Warhol.

I went home and made soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner.  Andy Warhol went home and made history.

Brian wondered, but your description is exactly how rubbing elbows with famous people often happens.... in the grocery store where you least expect it. And, as yummy as soup and grilled cheese is, going home to cheese after meeting Andy Warhol sums up my life pretty much. I enjoyed your light bulb moment, Lyn. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. Another brief look into your wonderful imagination. Well put, and there you go again, with your one liners that blow everyone away: he made history.
Well, I'm sure your grilled cheese wasn't too shabby either!
