XXXXXXXSAND IN THE SHELL
X
It's a speck of sand that's crept into my shell,
that I'm trying to spit out
to cough up.
What places this dust in me?
Am I to be torn,
to be hurt by a floating dot?
x
I heard a rumor that this is the launch
of a life inside
that pulls and scratches and embeds
till here it is,
this phantom from my previous days,
before redemption or good deeds could save me.
x
Eat me up, let's see who will survive this wound
where a tiny pearl yet to swell
whispers I am the return,
just as you are the carrier.
x
This life in a bubble,
shielded from the plague,
later believes it's a feather,
x
floats away
from bonds
that tie a knot,
that stops the blood.

Hi Lyn,

Your poem has got me thinking again! About just what it means, this aggravation, this irritation inside. That can become a beautiful pearl - but at what cost to the oyster?

Hi Derrick-
The pearl/child...the oyster/mother..that's what I think..or, maybe I shouldn't say!

Thanks, Lyn. I need all the help I can get! I had much darker imaginings but now, of course, see it so clearly! Our minds can do such strange things.

I'm with Derrick - thinking about so many things that get inside and irritate and we have choices on how to deal with it - I will paint this idea today - it's intriguing :)

Hi Derrick-
Your interpretation is right also.
It's what you see, find, that's important..
But, poet is happy to help!!

Hi Jeane-
Thank you..the thought that you will take this into a painting! Simply great..can't wait to see it!!

Sometimes it's very hard to shake the speck free. It takes some serious, delicate tools and a great deal of patience.

'rumor' = 'rumour'Typo. Or is that how you spell such where you are? Forgive me if so.

So so hard to let go at times and such, is just like a sand in a shell.Beautiful put, you.

Hi SarahA-
Yes, we spell it "rumor" here..we drop the "u" in a lot of words.
One tries to be on the path of non-attachment..a life-long dedication..letting go..not easy!!!
