MAGPIE/ Prompt # 56

                                               photo/ willow/ magpie tales

A tasty treat, I hope. A sliver of garlic always makes it better, I think.  Another great Mag Prompt from Tess.....thanks!

THE VAMPIRE'S BRUNCH

A walk in the fog of dawn
might unleash a shroud of wings,
wakeful on the horizon of desire.

Searing eyes eat me before we touch,
and the toothy vampire will be happy
only when my bloody skin sticks to his.

Before he has the power to dissolve my soul
and send me straight to hell, I have something
to whisper into this demon's ear:

I've got a fat clove of garlic,
when smashed and sniffed,
will save a damsel like me!

A lei of Allium Sativum round my pale neck
may look like flowers to the impaler,
but if this old bat mistakes me
for a Vampire's Brunch,
myths and garlic
will ruin his munch.

Footnote #1:
When Satan left the Garden, garlic arose in his left footprint and the onion in his right.  Remember to rub some Allium Sativum on chimneys and keyholes to keep the imp from coming in.

Footnote #2:
    Alliumphobia/ fear of garlic.

So good!

I really like how we get so many ideas out of one photo. Everyone interpreting it differently.

Lyn,
I knew ol' Bram Stoker would show his teeth with this prompt, I can't think of anyone more adept at foiling his bite.

The hairs on my arms actually rose when I read the first two stanzas! Now that is powerful. Like the dark humour.

If footnote #1 is true a great many people in this country have taken taken it to heart - they are known to wear strings of garlic round their necks to ward off evil spirits when they are alarmed or disturbed by something.

Love it!

Hi Bee's Blog-
Any time I can scare someone is a good day for me!! The footnotes are true, in my country too... I never remove my little lei..so much for evil spirits!!

Lyn said...

Hi Tumblewords-
So glad you liked this...thanks!!

Kavita said...

Aahh.. you clever girl!! Pepper spray may work on one type..and on the rest, it's GOT TO BE garlic!! Thank God for this friendly life saver (literally too)!!

Awesome one, Lyn... loved the way you wrote this one.. fun and more fun!!
Ooohh..and learnt a new word too.. "Alliumphobia"!! Nice!! :))

Lyn said...

Hi Kavita-
What a great comment...always choose garlic..a natural repellent, great additive! Who could ask for more??
I'm certainly not alliumphobic!!
