Again..

GIRL, RECYCLED
X
My best friend says she wouldn't go back
to the years of reckless abandon.
So happy to age naturally
without even dreaming
of tucks or lifts.
But what if I do
stitch my face
pushing here, pulling there
hoping that the shell
doesn't turn heads
and bring about a giggle.
x
I'm glad there's no mirror under my skin,
where an old lady sits waiting.
x
What if I saw a girl dancing alone,
not even seeing two partners approaching.
x
She's touching her hair,
twirling beads,
smoothing silk across her hips,
a purple light streams from her eyes.
She's painting the town to a red beat
x
and suddenly, watching her,
I ask time to stop
because I want that.
x
Could I perform incantations,
abandon good karma
for just one more beginning
to be a girl again,
stride and flirt,
heeled up high,
wild as I fancy,
tossing a shiny mane?
x
Don't save me from
the little imp
who hangs around for such as I,
waiting to grant my desire.
x
And dreaming further,
I promise to live without a prayer,
to dance again once more.

Would be nice, just once. In my mind I often see the slim girl dancing, the long, silky red hair moving to the beat but I'm very happy in this old skin with my once sleek, beautifully dressed man slouched on the lounge over there, also comfortable in his. The journey's been all good.

That was wonderful, Lyn.

Hi Alaine-
Funny, if you were describing yourself, you were also describing me at one time! Thank you..

The girl on the inside of me sometimes startles at her reflection in the mirror, but it's all part of the rhythm of life. No nips or tucks for this old face.

Hi Willow-
Stitches are way too expensive! Instead I hope for good lighting!

I agree with Willow, no stitches or tucks, but I also sometimes get startled when looking in the mirror... especially when I see my mother staring back.

And you shall keep dancing, my dear! Especially with lines like this:

'I'm glad there's no mirror under my skin,
where an old lady sits waiting.'

Marvellous, simply marvellous.

Greetings from London.

Beautiful and moving, Lyn!

And do keep dancing - I do, and I've got one or two wrinkles on my neck!

Hi Lyn,

I'm sure we all hanker for a little of our youth from time to time but it's also nice to be content with what you've got. That young person is always inside.

Hi Derrick-
Right now the only youth I want is someone to help me put my place back together again! Painting has nearly done me in..must survive to dance another day!
