FIRST I GOT SHUT OUT of Jingle, poem already done...what to do? Then I got an invite to join the new Gooseberrygoespoetic Blog. This is good, because poem seemed about to languish. Thanks one and all (Jingle, of course!).
Will not be able to comment for next couple of days because of necessary surgery...shhhh...but will try to catch up. And, fingers crossed, please!
ADAM and EVE and ALIENS
This orb of trees
and blue seas
will be planted
with miracles
from this day forward.
A book will tell the legend.
Pull Eve from his rib now,
let her kiss the bleed
as if she could ever
heal the pain of Adam's desire.
All will bear the scar.
The secrecy of a bitten apple,
will create a yawning wound
as snakes contrive
illusions of fulfillment.
So like the other worlds
where androids reign.

A VERY IMPORTANT APPLE
You mean that by my taking a bite,
there's no turning back,
I've shaped the sin of the world?
Who would have thought
this succulent fruit,
whose sap has trickled down my chin,
a syrupy residue laced
with purity, and oozing
towards my bosom,
would mark me
as the first offender?
Can it be, Mr.S,
the bite you enticed me to nibble,
plunged creation into vanity,
where all's over at the start,
all's conceit, and
I'm doomed
to a life of repentance?
A simple desire for a treat
did all that, you say?
Not fair, not fair!
I didn't know you'd change an apple
into a metaphor.

SO YOU FEEL like having some apple pie for dessert. But you didn't bake one or buy one. You do have a few apples lying around. Everyone one does since Eve. Here's a recipe for a crustless pie...OK, it's really just broiled apples, but the taste sensation's the same. And no crumbs.
6 firm apples, (MacIntosh, or Rome Beauties), peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
4 tbls. sweet butter, melted
3/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
Vanilla ice cream
Heat broiler. Toss the apples with the lemon juice, butter, and all but 2 tbls. of sugar.
Arrange on a baking sheet in a single layer. Broil about 8 inches from the heat for about 10 min., or until tender.
Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tbls. of sugar and broil until melted.
Heat the maple syrup in a small saucepan over low heat.
Serve the apples warm with the ice cream. Drizzle with the syrup.
About 7-8 servings.
For a nice wine, choose a medium bodied Riesling to go with this almost Pie a la Mode'.
