ANTI-STILETTO
I don't wear shoes that seduce,
named after a weapon.
I don't buy stilettos with lessons attached,
to teach me to walk this way.
Once my clackety-click
in high heeled shoes
used to be alluring.
I feigned a glamorous stance,
walked on 4 inch impalers,
dipped into
the embrace of a tango
and all the bliss it entails.
Learned a long time ago
how to put one foot
in front of the other.
Currently I plunk and glide,
trying not to overreach my stride.
When I kick off my old soft shoes,
seduction has nothing to do with it.
A warm bubbly soak
is all I require,
and old slouchy scuffs
fulfill my desire.

i can not imagine trying to get my foot in some of the shoes people wear...comfort, comfort, comfort...and i might say the same for seduction. nice magpie...
Hi Linda-
What a nice comment..this was fun...
lyn, your magpie is mah-vel-us, darling! you told a touching tale here, one from not only a confessional point of view but with such honesty, too ;) from the 'look at me' to the 'i love me'...you charmer!
Hi Brian-
Thank you...
Am I to understand that there is such a thing as a comfortable seduction??? hah!
Hi sheri-
Thanks for being so kind! My feet just don't work in "those" shoes anymore..never more!!
I liked this. I'm all for comfort now, too.
Hi Pauline-
Thank you..I guess we have to live a bit before we accept the truth!!
... as you know, I totally relate!!
Oh, me, too. Well said, Lyn, well said.
Hi Helen..
Yes, everyone seems to relate! Truth..I still have a couple that I just look at, longingly!
Hi Willow-
Thank you..I have a great pair of PINK sandals that I take out every summer and just stare at them..boo hoo...
Comfort in all things! Great magpie.
Hi Tumblewords-
Me too..hooked on comfort! Thank you...
I like the balance created here between earlier and later. There is a touch of sensuousness in both.
Hi Paul C.
Thank you.. Glad I fit into both the earlier and later..
Hi Lyn, Don't you just hate 'breaking in' new shoes! Poor Amelda Marcos!
Hi Stafford-
Very funny..never thought of Imelda and pity in the same sentence!
Thanks for visiting..
It's amazing how we all gravitate towards comfort, but you need a few years of agonizing, crippling shoes to really appreciate the shoes that our *feet* like.
Hi Lyn,
This is lovely - but I did wonder what Willow might say, having her shoes described as "old slouchy scuffs"?!
P.S. I had an aunt who wore stilettos until she died. Mother never understood how she managed!
Hi Sue J.
Thanks for dropping in...those few years of agony are called youth!! Then we pay..and get sensible!!
Hi Derrick-
I know that Willow's old scuffs must be elegant..mine? Not likely!!
Hi Derrick-
I guess Auntie was a fashionista to the end!!
Your post is always fun and fascinating...
lovely tale!
Hi Jingle-
This was an interesting prompt...always a challenge! Thanks..
stiletto shoes are meant to seduce....a temporary passion....J41's or Dansko shoes are meant to be worn for hours as you explore the hills of San Fransico or walk the charming neighborhoods of Chicago. "sensible shoes" help you to explore your world and your soul! I have learned this from experience.
Hi Lisa-
And our shoes shall lead us! Good treads eased me up Lombard..and back down...
Living in a city makes me walk daily..love it!! Thanks...
In other words... flats are uplifting. Heh. ;)
Hi JeffScape-
Made me smile..but barefoot is heaven!!
Ah, life passing by, seen through a pair of shoes. What a fantastic poem! Many thanks.
