MAGPIE...Prompt #139
MIDNIGHT SNACK/ 1984/ Curtis Wilson Cost
THANK YOU, Tess at Magpie Tales...
MIDNIGHT SNACK
Last night it hummed in the attic,
an idle Nosferatu
who's found a recurring song.
Biting my nails,
spitting fret,
writing a plea
to God or man,
that daybreak will rescue me.
Each and every light
switched on,
enfolds me like armor,
saves me
for tomorrow.
Then I'll invite somebody
to listen with me
to the screech,
whistling from that dim corner.
I desire a moment of embrace,
tendrils of morning fog
hold me close.
An advent of specters
dance around me.
I grasp a hand
cold as one that tosses earth
on an open grave.
I find the returning melody.

OooooOOOooo! Creepy. Perfect for the season. Love the suspense and the suggestion. Creepy!
Hi dori-
Thanks so much...glad I scared you!
Beautiful:
"I desire a moment of embrace,
tendrils of morning fog"
I think you have captured the two sided aspect of things. I have been reading about animals lately and they teach us that fearing and curiosity can exist side by side, and do at least in mammals, let alone humans.
Very creative and beautifully written...
Hi flipside-
So glad you enjoyed this...thanks!
Hi christopher-
I think you got it...we definitely are fear/curiosity...yin/yang! Thank you...
Hi Berowne-
Appreciate your generous words...thank you.
a singing nosferatu in the attic...dang...and i thought cats were bad...smiles....nice menace to this...i imagine it would cause quite the madness...hope dawn comes soon for you
Hi Brian-
She's sort of torn, isn't she? Falling under the "Twilight" spell!

"cold as one who tosses the earth" yeahhh that is wonderfully creepy! One of your best but then I say that all the time!
Hi Blue Sky--
Oh, you can keep saying that all the time..thanks!
Oh! Quick! The garlic!
Hi Tess-
Oh no, I ate it! Should have just breathed on him!! Thank you...
Very Saturnine, Miss Poe ! . Happy dark moon .
Hi Kutamun-
Highly flattered...Miss Poe, indeed! Thank you!
This gave me goosebumps! I've actually experienced something like this and invited others to listen with me and it really is very unsettling. You captured the feeling very well.
I love the way you captured the feel of night in the photo Lyn!
Hi Little Nell-
Amazing adventure you had! Please don't invite me, I'm really a scaredy cat! Thanks!!
