Brave New Day...
BRAVE NEW DAY
It's the morning, darkness still reigns.
I slide out of bed,
tuning in to creaking knees,
a puppet getting aligned,
standing for the first run of the day.
To the bathroom.
Ahhh.
Why go back to bed?
To fake finding that last dream?
I don't think so.
Better to feel a purpose
running red within my veins.
Heroic tasks may arise
after the first dust devil appears
next to the cat.
Brush in hand,
I find importance in a sweep.
Kitty gives me his back.
Little surprises await.
Better look down.
I am peering through the window
to welcome a day
that will be important.
As it seems every day at sun up.
Life itself is palpable.
It's only midday that signals a truth
that tickles my ear,
and a whisper says,
you can take a nap now.
I succumb,
to gather energy
for the amazing night yet to be.
And then to bed.
An optimist's lament? Except optimists don't lament!

Very rarely do I slip back into bed to fake finding that last dream. But when I do, it's so nice!
Nice poem. Sleep is precious, just ask a cat. Purrr!
Hi Willow-
Hmm...maybe I'll try it one of these days..but I sort of like the afternoon nap!!
Hi Linda-
Indeed, my cat's been sleeping all of this very cool day..snuggle time!
Ah, those heroic tasks of vacuuming and chasing dust bunnies. I know them well.
Lyn,
very beautifully expressed.. Dreams are myriad super images.. I chase them often

"Why go back to bed?
To fake finding that last dream?"
There was a rotund YES! welling up inside me as I read those lines. Marvellous poem.
Now go back to bed, dear. :-)

Greetings to a Cuban-
So glad you agree!..I also believe that sometimes (early) we should just call it a day!
You get up while it's still dark, Lyn?! It gets rather tricky trying to fit things in around the sleep!
Hi Derrick-
I do indeed get up at about 2 minutes to 6:00 every morning..it's part of my dwindling Aries energy. Must teach my brain some new tricks!!
