MAGPIE/ Prompt #24

                                      photo/willow/ magpie tales

PEEK-A-BOO

Don't think I can't see you
under the rumple of the sheet.
You haven't become invisible
and any creative mystery
you're trying to compose,

locked doors,
sealed windows...

What, vanished?

Your disappearing act
won't be played out with me.

There's your hand
peeking out from under
the white expanse
that I tenderly folded over you
last night.

Are you kidding?
Do you really think
that an unwelcoming bed
will send me scurrying?

Come out,
come out, wherever you are!
I'd know the curve
of your hip, anywhere.
Oh no, buddy boy, I'm here to stay.

Just read the fine print
at the bottom of our document
of eternal bliss.

Thanks again to Willow at magpie tales for coming up with such a challenging photo..please check the contributions of the other bloggy participants...more fun!

* Just a word of thanks to my friend and fellow blogger, Derrick at Melrose Musings for having written a most amazing post, A Growing Acquaintance, about my little book of poetry, "Two Ghosts".  Quite a thrilling experience for me.  In the exchange of our books of poetry, I was fortunate to receive Derrick's excellent, recently published, "Mixed Emotions".  All encompassing and original, as his blog always is..a treasure to have.

Hi Christine-
Thanks for visiting..I guess she thinks she wins..but..maybe not smoothe sailing!!

That was sweet - it sort of took me back to my early-years' marriage....I should have presented a pre-nup back then, too....!

Hi Lena-

I thought of a ghost, a fluffy ghost hidden in the sheets.

Loved the lightness and the whimsy.

Lyn said...

Hi spacedlaw-
Thank you..I can see that, and who am I to say NO to a ghost?

Lyn said...

Hi little hat-
Thanks ...I'm glad it worked..I thought that there would be many more "serious" and brilliant responses!

Friko said...

This could almost follow on from mine.
I like the poem, I like the idea of the hidden one, the playfulness of the interaction and the pleasures to come.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Lyn said...

Hi Friko-

Hi rel-
Thanks for visiting..
For this guy, I think it is..and then running??

C.L. Smith said...

Lyn, I really like the rhythm and energy of your poem. And your use of assonance and consonance as a way of linking lines together..as in "under the rumple of the sheet" and the way "hand" is echoed in the later sounds of "expanse" and "last." I'm always interested in the way the sounds of words reflect their meaning, as they seem to do in those lines.

Anyhoo, I look forward to reading more.

Lyn said...

Hi C.L.Smith-
I really appreciate what you have to say. I know that there's a beat in my writing, an internal rhythm that I do hope others discover..so I thank you..I'm always tapping my toes!!
