DANCER/ Poetry Potluck #14

THIS WEEK, Poetry Potluck #14, offers the opportunity to indulge in Hobbies!  Passions!  Pastimes!  Entertainment!  Where do I fit in??  A bit of this and a bit of that....

DANCER

Show me
to a table,
don't pull
out the chair,
take the whiskey
glasses off,
and yank
the cloth aside.

Let me
take your hand
for a
boost up,
as I step upon
your knee,
see how
nimble
and refined
I am,
like the swan
in a
famous ballet.

I take flight,
I come to rest,
my crimson shoe
ready
to burn
a hole
on the spot.

Shine
the spotlight
here, boy,
don't miss
my modus operandi,
as I seize
a point in time
to do
my legendary dance.

Jazzy tap,
satin tango,
please
bring me
a sloe gin
fizz,
to sate this drought
within.

Toss a coin
if you wish
if you want
the show
to go on.

I'm the one
who dresses
in neon.
Travels
the world,
dances
on tables.

I'm Dancing....

                                                                             Boucher

DANCING

I'm not thinking,
I'm dancing.
The body knows how to dance
before the mind can form a thought.

Dancing is:
my body's dream.
It erupts like a spring on a barren plain.
God disguised?

When my mind fills my head
it always wants to name the dance,
name the step,
direct from backstage,
sell tickets to its IQ.
My foot just taps a beat.

Dance
comes from the whole cloth of my karma,
not words.

My body remembers my sins,
my joys,
it spins and fancy dances
into the past,
predicts the future.

Pull the plug on my mind
still my foot will go en pointe
when music seduces me.

Quiet down, grey cells,
watch that leap of faith take hold!

Again..

GIRL, RECYCLED
X
My best friend says she wouldn't go back
to the years of reckless abandon.
So happy to age naturally
without even dreaming
of tucks or lifts.
But what if I do
stitch my face
pushing here, pulling there
hoping that the shell
doesn't turn heads
and bring about a giggle.
x
I'm glad there's no mirror under my skin,
where an old lady sits waiting.
x
What if I saw a girl dancing alone,
not even seeing two partners approaching.
x
She's touching her hair,
twirling beads,
smoothing silk across her hips,
a purple light streams from her eyes.
She's painting the town to a red beat
x
and suddenly, watching her,
I ask time to stop
because I want that.
x
Could I perform incantations,
abandon good karma
for just one more beginning
to be a girl again,
stride and flirt,
heeled up high,
wild as I fancy,
tossing a shiny mane?
x
Don't save me from
the little imp
who hangs around for such as I,
waiting to grant my desire.
x
And dreaming further,
I promise to live without a prayer,
to dance again once more.

The Letter "D"

MY LETTER, "D", to play this game, was given to me
by Natalie/ Musings from the deep.

xIf you want to play, please leave me a comment and I'll send you a letter. Then you can list ten things that matter to you. And play!

xWell, "D" indeed! Is that a judgement, a grade, before I even begin? You must have secret knowledge that I can't count. Putting that aside, here comes my first "D", which I will DESIGNATE #1. And then, we'll see.

DANCE- I will DANCE for food. In a DIAPHANOUS gown, in a DOWNPOUR.

DESIRE- There goes that Streetcar again, and from Will Shakespeare:

" Is it not strange that DESIRE should so many years outlive performance" ?x

DREAM- Perchance to....ay, there's the rub. For in that sleep of

DEATH, what DREAMS may come../ Hamlet

xOh well, sorry, DEATH itself, but perhaps more easily, in "webdings".. cowards die many times before theirs DEATH ?...Shakespeare.x

DEEDS- ..."and yet words are not deeds".....Guess who?

x

DICKINSON- I hide myself within my flower,

xxxxxxxxxxxxxThat wearing on your breast,

xxxxxxxxxxxxxYou unsuspecting, wear me too-

xxxxxxxxxxxxxAnd angels know the rest.

x

xDOSTOEVSKY-XXXXXIf you were to destroy the belief of immortality in mankind, not only love, but every living force on which the continuation of all life in the world depended, would dry up all at once.

X

xDYLAN- You better start swimming

xxxxxxxxxor sink like a stone,

xxxxxxxxxcause the times they are a-changing.
