MAGPIE/ Prompt #47

                                            Photo/ Willow/ Magpie Tales

CLOSE

These lovers
may look aberrant to you.
Well.
Tend to your own ardor,
look at your attachments,
then speak.

The moon takes the sun
into itself in order to shine,
a cool orb absorbs the light,
eats the sun to keep going.

No matter how I pull my body away
I still fuse to you.
Hand elbows knees entwine,

and we pass into some jazz
with a hard beat,
a twist that some call art.

Love this! I think it describes my relationship with my husband fairly well...

Some very memorable lines here
"The moon takes the sun
into itself in order to shine", is one of those lines that ring so true, and seem so obvious, that you can't believe you didn't think of it yourself (of course you did think of it yourself):)

"No matter how I pull my body away
I still fuse to you".
Hand elbows knees entwine". I know that feeling. Who said love was all pleasant, without the supposed to?

Hi Bug-
Thank you! Seems rather normal to me...

I looked at this weeks Prompt and thought "suffocating" - maybe I am not in the right frame of mind!! Enjoyed your piece.

Hi Andreas-

A brilliant take on the magpie. seeing lovers entwined speaks of a probing heart to me.

Lovely!

Love seems an aberration to observers. You capture their enchantment for each other perfectly. Jazz has a pulsing vitality.

That describes, to me, the perfect relationship - one that functions, not by dependency, but by the natural flow of things.... like the laws that govern the universe.....like the influence of the moon on the ebb and flow of the tide ..... Such a well-structured and beautiful poem.

Lyn said...

Hi Eliza-

A great interpretation of the image, Lyn! I particularly like the first stanza's admonition!

Hi Derrick-
It was just a little lecture to start with! This whole thing was odd because I did part of the poem before I saw the image and then the Prompt nailed it for me....synchronisity!
