Balance

xxxxxxxxBALANCE
X
Sorrow plummets down to the ocean's floor
where sightless creatures need only mouths
to strain the salt
from what they devour,
x
and panoramic vistas can never be explained
to a universe pushing
against a surge of light.
x
Seeking an answer in a cave of darkness,
pivoting to open and close my skin,
x
will I receive a clear balance
on the scales of justice?
x
No longer buoyant, I sink,
pour my tears into a cup to mix with the sea.
x
Who can tell which is my salt?
x
For all the sorrow in the deep
can't be perceived
by beings blind from the outset.

  1. Very deep, Lyn. And wherever did it come from? Our salt mixing in the ocean, the individual no longer distinct. Very thought provoking.

  3. Hi Derrick-
Indeed..where does poetry come from? The way I write at times, it's almost like being in a trance!Writing lets you go there!

That's a quote to put on a header. It left me both speechless and pensive. It brings to mind the suffering of people we think happy. It reminds me of inner turmoils that cannot be explained because of the implications. It's a very good poem. Many thanks and I hope you are well, both outside and inside.

  7. Greetings to A Cuban-
Thank you for your thoughtful comments..I love poetry..it keeps me true, doesn't let me fib..it is true to the moment I'm in. And when the moment changes to happiness, I can grab that too!!
When I tell the truth in poetry, I don't need a shrink!!

I've always thought that they are surplus. We humasn have the capacity to change ouselves without lying down on a couch. if more of us wrote poetry and tried to explore our inner selves, there would probably be fewer wars and conflicts in the world.

  9. Hi to A Cuban-
I so agree with you..that's why I think "artists" are the most fortunate people..being willing and able to convert their explorations into art itself!!!

  14. Sometimes when we can't explain where something comes from, those are the times that true feelings show. Of course I am loving this, you.Salt tears always mingle with my own.
