MAGPIE/ Prompt #62
photo/ magpie tales/ tess kincaid
THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT kinds of folk in the yolk world....a subject that comes to mind because of this week's Mag...thanks Tess, and pass the salt, please...
OVER, NOT EASY
Take it back.
Please.
I don't like leaky yellow
seeping into white goo.
When I say "over"
I mean flip it,
till the edges crunch,
and the yolk looks
as if it can bounce.
Please.
Tease that egg.
Don't serve me
sunny side up,
or runny side down.
A hockey puck
on toast will do.

firm opinions on eggs then ...
ReplyDeletenicely composed Magpie
"hockey puck on toast" That's great! This made me smile this morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm very particular about my eggs, too, in fact these are a bit on the overdone side for me!
ReplyDeleteHi Isabel-
ReplyDeleteDefinitely is a visceral reaction..Thanks for the visit!!
Hi Lolamouse-
ReplyDeleteAny smile in the AM is OK with me!!Thank you..
Hi Tess-
ReplyDeleteWell, we have to differ about something! French toast, anyone?
Thanks for the possibilities!
Lyn, I like my eggs just the way you describe yours ... minus the hockey puck!
ReplyDeleteHi Helen-
ReplyDeleteI knew I'd find an ally! And hold the puck!
ditto xo
ReplyDeleteHi Jeane-
ReplyDeleteGlad we agree!! thanks!!
lolssssss!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya girl.. no worries, I can cook perfectly crunchy sunny side ups with yolks firmly cooked as well..
Don't forget to sprinkle some salt!!
Hugs xx
Hi Olivia-
ReplyDeleteWell, there you go..I just knew I could count on you! And some cracked pepper too..
Very funny and very assertive. "Hockey puck" says it all. To me it is a situational thing...fried like a hockey puck between the slices of a bagel...but gooey if on a plate. The reverse is just wrong on so many levels. Nice write. Vb
ReplyDeleteHi versebender-
ReplyDeleteI like your combo/bagel, and yes
a drippy bagel..nah..as you say "wrong..."
I'm fussy about eggs too liking the crisped edges - if it has runny white yuk - can't touch it!
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Our hens give us the most amazing eggs. I love mine poached!
ReplyDeleteHi HyperCRYPTICal-
ReplyDeleteYuk, is right..how do they do it?? So glad you agree, Anna!
Hi mrsnesbitt-
ReplyDeleteI do like poached, but mine tend to the hard poached! Thanks for visiting...lucky you and your endless supply!
...and Worcestershire sauce, which I think you might call English sauce.
ReplyDeleteA kind stranger....
Hi Chairman Bill-
ReplyDeleteI call it Worcestershire too..a bottle lasts about 5 years!
More than kind!!
Very clever! I love how your poem builds until you're shouting "a hockey puck on toast!" I also like the lyrical line "Please Tease that egg!" Witty and whimsical--Fun!
ReplyDeleteSmiles ... I too like the crunchy edges, but I'm not sure about the hockey puck - that sounds dark!
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret-
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to welcome you..thanks so much! I definitely like when I find a lyrical line!
Hi Reflections-
ReplyDeleteThank you..a poetic exaggeration! But, for me, better than oozy...haha
So enjoyed this, Lyn.
ReplyDeleteMake mine scrambled!
Margie :)
I'm a soft and runny type! Heh!
ReplyDeleteI agree - any way but runnyrunny. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Margie-
ReplyDeleteComin' right up..I'm a pretty good short order cook!!
Hi Trellissimo-
ReplyDeleteWell, I just won't look!! Thanks...
Hi Tumblewords-
ReplyDeleteThat's how the world divides, I guess!! Thank you...
Ooh what lovely imagery, you really conjure up those differing egg styles!
ReplyDeleteLOL, someone's getting their food spit in.
ReplyDeleteGood writing here, my friend. Tight, perfect for its effect.
Hi Raph-
ReplyDeleteThank you, I really had to scramble for this one!!
Hi Steve-
ReplyDeleteI did this prompt with fingers crossed, enjoyed doing it!! Thanks..
ah Lyn this was a 'happy' lyrical poem, with lots of truth running with those 'over easy' eggs, you are right they have to be perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely poem served up on a magpie fine china.
joanny
Hi joanny-
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked this "running" poem and the perfect china!
you mean it,
ReplyDeleteeloquent message.
well done.
Hi Jingle-
ReplyDeleteThat's a divine comment..thank you...
Happy Easter!!
