MAGPIE/ Prompt #27

                                          photo/willow/magpie tales

FITTINGs

I used to be a dancer
like the Degas ballerina,
knees and joints warming up,
to perform a plie'.

Lost my footing,
knees collided,
now I'm just an artifact,
overlapping flanges,
no recovery in sight.

Patina gilds my age,
and crumbling toes
dissolve en pointe.

Joints out of kilter,
valves clogged.
Do me a favor
and pull the plug.

I'm zapped,
unhappy,
unglued,
un-tutu-ed.

  1. Charming little story of your battered ballerina body ... as compared to Willow's photo. Nice job!

  2. Even the brightest stars collapse in upon themselves having burned hotter than the others.

  9. ahh no--not untutued..like a phoenix you shall rise --you may not be able to be en pointe but perhaps a samba or better yet a slow sultry tango...best c

  10. Oh Lyn... But surely one doesn't need to be a performing ballerina to wear a tutu, does one? Please say no. I like to wear my tutu from time to time.

  11. Hi Suz-
Thank you..yes, it's awful when that happens!

  13. Hi Angie-

  14. Simultaneously funny and sad, Lyn! Can't imagine you without your tutu!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi Derrick-
I get the sad part, but funny?
My friends are all so supportive..on with the tutu!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Degas dancer....to this, how sad.

  17. Hi Paul-
Thanks..nothing lovlier than the Little Dancer...

  18. I guess it was the tutu that brought a smile to my lips, Lyn, rather like Willow but I promise to keep a straight face from now on!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh those darn knees! I hear ya, I'm a runner.

Great symbolism...I feel for you. I hope you still dance in your heart!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi Derrick-
A straight face is just what I look for in a friend!
When folks laugh, that encourages my tendencies....

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, Lyn... I've been feeling very "un-tutu-ed" lately! Not quite ready to pull the plug yet, but there are days...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi CM-

  23. Hi CatLadyLarew-

  24. Delightful poem, Lyn, the rhythm and the words are excellent. We all succumb to old age in the end, so we must make the most of our lives whilst we still can :)

  25. Hi Sam-
I really appreciate what you have to say..my feelings exactly!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love this one Lyn, and I can totaly relate to the story behind it...well, i was never a ballarena but i am having major leg problems now, and doing simple things I used to take for granted are a major chore now! Always enjoy your wonderful poetry. :-)

  27. My recent post was a bit autobiographical since I have been reading Angel cards for 5 years now. I also use the cards when I work with my massage clients, it gives them something to meditate on during their massage.

I guess it's no surprise we found each other!

    Blissings!

  28. Lyn, this is really so creative...and to think I was considering that I might give it try! I adore this! You Magpies need to publish these pieces, Big Time!
    "un-tutu-ed" ...so clever.

  29. Hi Carrie-

  30. Hi Everyday Goddess-
Fabulous..no surprise at all..I read the Angel cards too, I incorporate them into the reading with my usual deck.."The Keys to the Kingdom"..which no one reads but me(I think)!! Keep up the good work..

  32. I love the poem - what a great metaphor for ALL of us aging "dancers". Rusted joints and clogged pipes? Yep - that'd be me.

  48. I love the comparisons of plumbing to aging bodies...I am not too fond of watching my body slowly falling apart-but then I don't like the alternative either!
    Great magpie! Well done!

  49. Hi EK Switaj-

  52. Hi rallentanda-
Having enough trouble with my own identity, thank you very much!
Think I may have come up with a new word for our native language..maybe my fame will come from a footnote: "inventor of un-tutu-ed"...I'll take it!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. oh this is brilliant - un tutued!
And the first two lines have a great swing to them - some days I feel quite untutued myself!( Just wanted an opportunity to use the word!)
