I used to be a dancer
like the Degas ballerina,
knees and joints warming up,
to perform a plie'.
Lost my footing,
knees collided,
now I'm just an artifact,
overlapping flanges,
no recovery in sight.
Patina gilds my age,
and crumbling toes
dissolve en pointe.
Joints out of kilter,
valves clogged.
Do me a favor
and pull the plug.
I'm zapped,
unhappy,
unglued,
un-tutu-ed.

Charming little story of your battered ballerina body ... as compared to Willow's photo. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteEven the brightest stars collapse in upon themselves having burned hotter than the others.
ReplyDeleteWishing you blissful rest ballerina.
cute take...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the magic done to the prompt...
Hi Helen-
ReplyDeleteThank you....perhaps to dance again?
Hi Everyday Goddess-
ReplyDeleteI went in a kid, and came out a star! Thanks for that..
Love "un-tutu-ed". ((giggles))
ReplyDeleteHi Jingle-
ReplyDeleteThanks..I had some fun with this one!
Hi Willow-
ReplyDeleteThank you..as you probably know by now, I'll do anything to get to a punch line!!
poor ballerina
ReplyDeleteuntutued..funny word
ahh no--not untutued..like a phoenix you shall rise --you may not be able to be en pointe but perhaps a samba or better yet a slow sultry tango...best c
ReplyDeleteOh Lyn... But surely one doesn't need to be a performing ballerina to wear a tutu, does one? Please say no. I like to wear my tutu from time to time.
ReplyDeleteHi Suz-
ReplyDeleteThank you..yes, it's awful when that happens!
Hi C.M.Jackson-
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion..I'm looking forward to dancing on tables!!
Hi Angie-
ReplyDeleteYou have the right idea! Will be wearing mine for a run in the park!!Thanks...
Simultaneously funny and sad, Lyn! Can't imagine you without your tutu!
ReplyDeleteHi Derrick-
ReplyDeleteI get the sad part, but funny?
My friends are all so supportive..on with the tutu!!
The Degas dancer....to this, how sad.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul-
ReplyDeleteThanks..nothing lovlier than the Little Dancer...
I guess it was the tutu that brought a smile to my lips, Lyn, rather like Willow but I promise to keep a straight face from now on!
ReplyDeleteOh those darn knees! I hear ya, I'm a runner.
ReplyDeleteGreat symbolism...I feel for you. I hope you still dance in your heart!
Hi Derrick-
ReplyDeleteA straight face is just what I look for in a friend!
When folks laugh, that encourages my tendencies....
Oh, Lyn... I've been feeling very "un-tutu-ed" lately! Not quite ready to pull the plug yet, but there are days...
ReplyDeleteHi CM-
ReplyDeleteI certainly do!..if you check my"about me", you'll see how true that is..but oh, those knees!! Thanks...
Hi CatLadyLarew-
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by..yes, there are those days..just keep dancing!
Delightful poem, Lyn, the rhythm and the words are excellent. We all succumb to old age in the end, so we must make the most of our lives whilst we still can :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sam-
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate what you have to say..my feelings exactly!
I love this one Lyn, and I can totaly relate to the story behind it...well, i was never a ballarena but i am having major leg problems now, and doing simple things I used to take for granted are a major chore now! Always enjoy your wonderful poetry. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy recent post was a bit autobiographical since I have been reading Angel cards for 5 years now. I also use the cards when I work with my massage clients, it gives them something to meditate on during their massage.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's no surprise we found each other!
Blissings!
Lyn, this is really so creative...and to think I was considering that I might give it try! I adore this! You Magpies need to publish these pieces, Big Time!
ReplyDelete"un-tutu-ed" ...so clever.
Hi Carrie-
ReplyDeleteI do hope your leg problems can be healed..one thing after another, it seems...
Thank you so much for your comments..really appreciate it..
Hi Everyday Goddess-
ReplyDeleteFabulous..no surprise at all..I read the Angel cards too, I incorporate them into the reading with my usual deck.."The Keys to the Kingdom"..which no one reads but me(I think)!! Keep up the good work..
Hi FireLight-
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by..you should try the Mags..ideas just seem to burst forth!
Thank you so much for your comments!
I love the poem - what a great metaphor for ALL of us aging "dancers". Rusted joints and clogged pipes? Yep - that'd be me.
ReplyDeleteHi Patrice-
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting..yes, some days I'm "me", and some days I do seem to be someone else!! But she's a nice old girl!
So gald I found this balletic offering eventually...You danced up a storm!
ReplyDeleteHi jinksy-
ReplyDeleteThank you..love your blog...I'm dancing as fast as I can!!
Love it - the un-tutu-ed made me laugh indeed....Great Magpie..bkm
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! This is a great comparison.
ReplyDeleteHi bkm-
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed this..thanks so much!
Hi Teresa-
ReplyDeleteWelcome! So nice to have your comment..thanks!
Lyn,
ReplyDeleteEven as the limbs brittle, one can still do the two step too, too.
rel
Hi rel-
ReplyDeleteAs long as we've still got rhythm, right? I do like the 2 step....
Good one!
ReplyDeleteHi Gaston-
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting..really wondered a bit about this prompt, but...!!
my wife was a dancer for 18 years..and there are days she aches for all she put herself through...a wonderful take on the prompt...nicely played...
ReplyDeleteHi Brian-
ReplyDeleteThank you..when I get into extreme daydreaming, the life I'd choose would be dance..no doubt!
Clever - I think everyone's far ahead of the game when I'm un-tutu-ed. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Tumblewords-
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting..
I get that feeling too often too..there's that tutu again..ha..
Very creative take on the photo-prompt. I, too, love un-tutu-ed
ReplyDeleteI love the comparisons of plumbing to aging bodies...I am not too fond of watching my body slowly falling apart-but then I don't like the alternative either!
ReplyDeleteGreat magpie! Well done!
Hi EK Switaj-
ReplyDeleteWelcome..and thank you..must find a substitute for my tutu..maybe blogging??
Hi kathew-
ReplyDeleteThanks so much..Well, we still have spunk!
Taking down my mirrors...
Thank for your NYC street kid words. Did someone clonk me on the head with one of these pipes?I think I may have been un tu tu ed!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever find out who I am could you please let me know!
Hi rallentanda-
ReplyDeleteHaving enough trouble with my own identity, thank you very much!
Think I may have come up with a new word for our native language..maybe my fame will come from a footnote: "inventor of un-tutu-ed"...I'll take it!!
oh this is brilliant - un tutued!
ReplyDeleteAnd the first two lines have a great swing to them - some days I feel quite untutued myself!( Just wanted an opportunity to use the word!)
